About Hanalum
The Hanalum Project supports the educational growth of Hanmin High School.
Through the project, we aimed to provide educational support — both online and offline — to current students, alumni, faculty, prospective students hoping to enroll, and the families of the Hanmin community, all with the goal of building an alumni foundation that fosters mutual growth with the school, forms a lasting network among its people, and ultimately grows into a full-fledged “community.”
I served as Hanalum’s founding president from February 2019 to December 2019. Afterward, to focus more on development than on planning and operations, I led the development team until May 2020.
As president, I planned and ran a mentoring program for around 400 high school students. Rather than let the mentoring stay a short-term, project-scoped effort, I planned and built the Hanareum web service to grow it into a lasting community. The web service went on to host stories from alumni pursuing their dreams across many different fields.
Web Service
At the time of development (Feb. 2019), the Hanalum web service was built primarily with Django on the backend and jQuery on the frontend. Working with Django and the MVC pattern, I got comfortable connecting models to the database, handling client requests through controllers, and building the client-facing views.
The team building the web service at the time had about 10 members. We split the work into modules and managed each person’s contributions through git. Through plenty of trial and error, I sharpened my skills with git branching and version management.
